He not only will be motivated to show he's back after two years off, but to prove he's healthy and back to the form that took him to the highest level of the sport despite undergoing hip resurfacing surgery in 2006.

The past two years have been challenging, to say the least. What is motivating you to return to racing?
I love cycling
What did you miss most about racing the past two years?
The excitement of the races.
What helped you decide to come back with a domestic outfit such as OUCH Presented by Maxxis?
They have been the best domestic team for the last five years and I hope to add some strength to that.
When was the last time you raced a full season in the U.S.?
2001
What races have you done domestically in the past that you're looking forward to doing again, and which ones haven't you done that you're looking forward to?
The Tour of CA and later the Tour of Missouri and Tour of Utah
What did your training program look like to return to form following your surgery?
Several months rehab and then cycling to strengthen the muscles.
What are your goals or expectations for the 2009 season?
Make OUCH the best team again.
Who were/are your cycling mentors and/or influences?
I've been fortunate to have been around many great racers, directors, and coaches.
What was your first bike? When/how did you get it?
My parents bought a Huffy for my birthday.
What was your first win?
First big win was the '93 junior national mountain bike championships.
What would you consider your finest moment on the bike?
2006 Tour de France
What was your worst or most embarrassing moment on the bike?
They were all good.
When you're not on your bike, what do you like to do?
Listen to music and sleep.
If you weren't a professional cyclist, what would you be doing?
I'd be a rock star.
